Creek Swimming

We had our good friends Tammy and Josh and family over for dinner last week. After dinner we enjoyed some homemade popsicles outside. It didn't take long for some frog-catching boys to get a little wet, than a little wetter and before we knew it, they were all in the creek. We decided we could either force them to come out of the somewhat dirty water... or let them be boys and have the time of their life.  Glad we chose the latter!  They swam until dark and then we all had to go home.  Thankful for these friends of ours and sad they will be gone for six months this fall. Reality of life here is that there is almost always at least one of our good friends if not more gone for months at a time ( or we are gone).  We hope to plan a sleepover before they leave in September.

Bennett and Austin with Hudson and Levi.
The bigger boys...and the littles below.

Lucy probably would have loved to join in but we did not go that far.  She really likes Abby (almost 9), their big sister and was happy to run around after her.

Summer Corn

I love eating fresh corn on the cob in the summer...but have had many failed attempts at that in past years.  The corn here is just not the same as your local, south eastern U.S. farmer's market corn.  But today I found some at our import store, grown on their farm down the road.  Cheap, local and it was pretty good (still not quite sweet corn from America but).  I had great helpers to shuck the corn!  They did it all by themselves and did a good job. I only had to get a few of the silks off myself.

And the eating...everyone enjoyed the eating.  We had a light summer meal tonight- corn, veggies and hummus and watermelon.  No one missed the meat or carbs (well other than corn). It has been so hot and we are minimally running A/C to stay within our electricity limit, so cool was the way to go tonight.

After dinner the boys made "beds" out of chairs...who needs real beds when you can make them?  They all played for awhile until Lucy fell off and it all went downhill from there to bedtime. (She was fine).
