Today I bought my friend Meg's electric bike and rode it all the way from my old area of town to my new one. It only took me an hour and a half! It took that long partly because I was riding slow and being really cautious as I got used to the electric bike, partly because I had to stop and change the battery part way through and wasn't used to the process and I did make one wrong turn and had to go back. But now that I did it, I am glad to have some wheels. I went to the grocery store/mall complex near us and it was so much faster on the bike. I also bought a bike helmet for me and Bennett (the other two have helmets already) and a new kids' bike seat for the back.
I still feel nervous a little about riding with a kid on the back, but I know I will get used to it. I won't really go too far on the bike, but it will be great for getting to preschool and back and other local places. The road to the preschool is a small one without a lot of traffic. Speaking of school, we have an answered prayer! The woman who runs the school talked to a friend of a friend who runs the other school in this same network and decided to let us try 3 days a week! I am so excited and have felt all along that this is the best option. She still had to talk to the teacher and get back to me, so I am pretty sure it will work out but still waiting for final confirmation. So hopefully he will either start a day or two this week or definitely by next week. Austin is also learning to ride his bike. He has never really learned to pedal and it seems like that is a hard concept for him to grasp. But Chris has taken him out the past 2 days to practice and he has made definite improvement. Chris has also taught him the concept of "concentration". Austin is VERY easily distracted and that also hampers his learning to ride, so they have times of more intense concentration and then time where he can just be silly and look around and ask 20 "why" questions.
Soon I will try to take some bike pictures...both of me and Austin.
