Here is a sampling of some of the things the kids have been learning lately. They tend to refer to all these different things they so as "schools" (homeschool, Chinese school, co-op, Sunday school etc).
On Wednesday the kids' Chinese school took them to McDonalds to practice ordering and buying things, handling money in Chinese. The kids were pretty excited, to say the least. And i suppose it was a pretty useful skill to have. (Austin is in the line above, Bennett ordering below).
Bennett is doing gymnastics this spring. We had felt for a long time we were trying to find something for Bennett to do that was active and his own, as he tends to be in big brother's shadow a lot of the time. He does it with our friends the Hunts two boys and has been a perfect outlet of jumping, running and learning some physical control as well.
I am helping in Bennett's kindergarten Homeschool Coop class this spring. You can see Bennett painting with some of his classmates (a class of 8 boys and 2 girls- it is a very active group).
Yesterday we held an impromptu event to go along with our homeschool history study. We are studying Ancient Greece and learned about the origins of the Olympics this week. Friday afternoon we invited some of our friends to join us for some competition revolving around the original Olympic sports. We got a beautiful day that brought the first real feel of spring and good air quality...and had a lot of fun. We had foot races, discus (frisbee), javelin throw(broom handle), long jump, wrestling (See Bennett above) and boxing (see Austin below). They involved kids of all different ages and were not exactly fair competition but I think everyone had fun. The boys also had to share a few things they had learned - probably most exciting was the original Olympics were all performed naked. Ha.
